Opportunity Grant
The Opportunity Grant is made available through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and provides funding to eligible applicants. The grant provides funding assistance to individuals who are pursuing certificates or degrees through DWD approved secondary educational institutions.
Eligibility
Must be between the ages of 18-21 and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Participant must be at least 18 years old and possess and present a legally valid Social Security Number.
- Participant must be employed in non-subsidized employment (either part-time or full-time) but earning a family income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (see chart below), and must provide documentation from an employer indicating such status.
- Participant must not be eligible for or presently receiving financial aid (other than Federal Pell Grant funds) as evidenced by the results of their Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Income inclusion/exclusion will follow methods and procedure established for WIA.
- Participant must not be presently receiving dislocated worker funds.
- Participant must provide documentation supporting their receipt of a high school diploma or an accredited GED or HSED and provide their education history.
- Participant must not have completed a previous associate degree or higher level degree unless the degree is more than seven years old and the applicant never worked in the field for which the degree was earned.
- Participant must pursue a minimum education of a Certificate of Completion.
- Participant must be pursuing education from a Wisconsin Area Technical College, Wisconsin based tribal college, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville or the University of Wisconsin- Stout.
- Participant must agree to work with a Training Case Manger provided through the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board.

Assessment and Enrollment
After completion of an application form, applicants may be required to attend an assessment interview and provide documentation for verification purposes. Approved applicants will be assigned a case manager, enrolled into the program and have services tracked in a DWD data base.
NOTE: All activity for this grant ends June 30, 2011.
