Fox Valley Workforce Development Board Honors Fond du Lac Employers J.F. Ahern and Grande Cheese;

Recognizes FDL County Executive for 25 Years of Service

The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board (FVWDB), in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), held an open house on September 26 at the newly remodeled Fond du Lac Job Center, 349 N. Peters Ave., Fond du Lac. The event was open to the public and featured tours and a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Job Center of Wisconsin – Wisconsin’s online job board and workforce information center.

During the event, FVWDB held a special presentation honoring J.F. Ahern Co. and Grande Cheese Company, two local employers with a commitment to workforce development in Fond du Lac and our entire region. Representing Grande Cheese, founded in 1941, was Aimee Hostettler, who also serves as Chair of the FVWDB Board for a second year. Representing J.F. Ahern Co., founded in 1880, was Kimberly Wachholz. Also in attendance were representatives of local partner agencies, Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore, DWD Job Service Director Debra Warga, other employer representatives and local residents.

County Executive Allen Buechel delivered remarks to congratulate Ahern and Grande for their ongoing commitment to workforce efforts. Buechel shared some thoughts about his time in leadership noting that 10 years ago, we were in the depths of the great recession and our region’s ultimate concern was keeping our local employers in business. Today, Buechel said our greatest struggle is to find our thriving employers the skilled workers they need.  Buechel thanked Grande Cheese, JF Ahern and all the local employers for their partnership with the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board and for supporting the Fond du Lac Job Center.

Following his remarks, Board CEO Anthony Snyder presented County Executive Buechel with a plaque recognizing his 25 years of service to workforce development in the FVWDB region. Buechel was named FDL County Executive in 1993, following 17 years as a member of the county board.  In his role, Buechel serves as an officer in the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board’s County Consortium, a coalition of six counties – Calumet, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago – that provides a governance and fiscal role to the FVWDB.
